STEPHANIE TELIBASA, DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY, OWNER

EXPERIENCES THAT BROUGHT ME TO PHYSICAL THERAPY.

As an active kid running track, dancing jazz hip hop tap, cheerleading at school and traveling...I've experienced aches, pains, and injuries. The game changer in my athletics was when an alternative to rest, ice, and braces was presented. Well-intending doctors suggested those classic options, missing the point that bulky bracing or sitting out were not viable options. A PT couple, husband and wife practice owners, were the first to suggest my complaints were from overuse and compensation patterns. They offered relief by adding strengthening and active stretching to my routine. Cue the beginning of my fascination with the PT field and the beginning of my career as a high school intern. Since then I have had the opportunity to observe and absorb knowledge from dozens of skilled therapists.

AFTER GRADUATION.

Following graduation, I worked under mentorship of Stony Brook Alumni at a non-traditional physical therapy set up. At this location I worked with both the post-surgical patients that you would normally classify as needing PT services, and also with the healthy athletic population. As I took over the lead role in this company and became partner in the second location, I found that clients looking for me and referring their friends were non-traditional PT candidates. These individuals are the class-pass addicts, the ultra-marathon runners, the crossfit community, the rock climbers; basically people who are exercising 5-7 days/week.

A physical therapist is a movement expert, not only someone who massages to reduce pain. I don’t do all of these activities personally, but I have attended a host of fitness classes with my patients so I can feel what they feel. I need to fully understand what they’re doing and how I can assist them.

OPENING HOUSE OF PHYSICAL THERAPY est. DEC 2017.

House of Physical Therapy was created with the vision that patients would be as comfortable as they are at home while getting real tailored treatment. Our mission is to provide healthcare services that facilitate pain free movement, enhance the lives of patients, and educate the public in how to use movement as medicine. We believe in empowering our patients to take control of their health by instilling confidence while teaching them the skills they need to heal.

I’m building a practice for people who feel just like I did when I found PT. I hated being told to rest, skip that run, sit out one more game. House of Physical Therapy is for the people that want to learn how to manage their pain, modify their workouts, and become stronger in every aspect. It is for the providers who want to treat their patients the way they would treat their family.

THE PLANNING PT est. JAN 2020.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to perform meaningful work that fulfills them through the impact they have on others and provides stability for themselves and their families.

Here's how I'm approaching this mission.

First I created a practice where patients felt comfortable and truly cared for. My practice allows physical therapists to treat with professional autonomy and have support to develop in both professional and personal means.

Second, I cofounded a company with my mom using my business experience and her medical billing expertise. This company allows her to use her experience and skill to make it possible for small PT and chiropractic practices access to premium billing services.

Then, I created a program that shares my business experience using language familiar to physical therapists in order to make complex business principles simple. The course teaches practice owners how to implement systems and make decisions based on objective data to grow and scale their practice without being tied to the business 7 days a week.

The approach shifts and evolves over time.

The mission is always the same.

Thank you for being a part of this community.
