Did You Know This About Your Body?

Did you know you have two calf muscles?

1.
The gastrocnemius is a 2 joint muscle that crosses the knee and ankle joint. It has a high density of fast twitch muscle fibers.

2.
The soleus muscle is a smaller muscle that lives under the gastrocnemius and only crosses the ankle joint. This muscle is made up of predominantly slow twitch muscle fibers, making it more susceptible to injury during endurance activities.

→ Try 2-3 sets of 10 repetitions of the straight and bent leg variation of heel raises to target both the gastrocnemius and soleus. For an increased challenge, try them on one leg.
